If you served during a wartime period and you're over sixty-five, there may be a second check from the VA with your name on it — one most veterans, and almost every surviving spouse, never find out exists. In this video I walk through the five VA benefits older veterans miss the most, exactly who qualifies for each, and the one worth the most every month. A few of these are need-based, so I tell you straight where you have to qualify instead of waving checks around like everybody gets one. The headline benefit — Aid & Attendance — can add up to about $2,424 a month for a single wartime veteran who qualifies, more with a spouse, and around $1,558 a month for a surviving spouse. But it's income- and net-worth-tested, so those figures are a maximum you may qualify for, not a promise. I'm not a financial advisor and I'm not with the VA.
