Water From Source to Tap: Bengaluru Chapter | Why India’s Silicon Valley Is Running Dry

Where does Bengaluru’s water really come from and what happens to it before it reaches your tap? In this episode of Water: From Source to Tap, Bengaluru Chapter, we trace the journey of water across India’s Silicon Valley, from the Cauvery River, or Kaveri River, located over 100 kilometres away to pumping stations, treatment plants, leaking pipelines and finally into people’s homes. Along the way, we examine water shortages, contaminated groundwater, polluted lakes, dependence on tankers and the growing pressure of rapid urbanisation on the city’s fragile water system. From tech hubs and gated societies in Whitefield and Koramangala to informal settlements dependent on borewells and water tankers, we explore why access to clean drinking water remains deeply unequal across Bengaluru and why the crisis is not just about scarcity, but also safety. Once known as the city of lakes, Bengaluru today loses a significant amount of water through leakages, ageing infrastructure and over-exploited groundwater. Yet for many residents, clean and reliable drinking water still remains uncertain. This is the third chapter in a series investigating the reality of urban water in India, from source to tap. #water #india #bengaluru Brut India is the fastest-growing digital video publisher in the country.
