Viskotter trotseert storm Francis

While most people stayed warm indoors today during summer storm Francis, the fishing vessel HD-36 was scheduled to return to Den Helder. "The waves were four meters high, which isn't healthy," says Rowin Zijlstra after hours of rocking at sea. The fish auction in Den Helder was full of cutters that had steered clear of the sea today. "After a week of fishing near Denmark, we had to return today," says skipper Rik Zijlstra. "You can sense in your gut that this storm is coming, but we know what this ship can handle." So, the crew didn't offer any prayers, but it wasn't exactly pleasant either. "I slept for an hour and then I was awake all night," says son Rowin. Due to the heavy waves, the trip also took considerably longer than usual. "Normally, we make a speed of 8.5 knots, but now it's a maximum of five, so it took about five to six hours longer."
