The New Savalalo Market

The new $30 million Savalalo Market in Samoa was officially opened on Monday, March 16, 2026. The ceremony was led by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Samoan officials, replacing the original marketplace that was destroyed by fire in 2016. The project was jointly funded by the Samoan and New Zealand governments. Rebuilt at its original location in the heart of Apia, featuring modern facilities including a flea market, handicraft vendors, and small-scale restaurants. The market features 5am to 6pm daily hours, with planned extended hours for weekends. The rebuild is designed to be a major economic and cultural hub for local vendors.
