Casting Glass with Daniel Clayman | Master Class Series, Volume IX

Daniel Clayman creates large-scale, cast-glass minimalist sculptures that evoke familiar objects and capture space and volume, transforming intangible light and shadow into the tangible. In this video, Clayman takes viewers through the process of kiln casting with glass, including creating the positive model, making the mold, kiln firing, and finishing. He discusses his work, his personal development as a sculptor, and his efforts in teaching and sharing his techniques. Clayman has been working with glass for more than 25 years. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1986 with a B.F.A. in glass. Clayman maintains a studio in Providence, RI, and has completed numerous private and public commissions. He is a frequent visiting artist and speaker at The Studio, and his work has been shown and collected throughout the United States and abroad. His works are included in the collection of The Corning Museum of Glass. Produced from 1998 to 2014, each video in The Studio’s Master Class Series presents a portrait of an artist and teaches a glassworking technique. Until now, these 30-minute videos have only been available on DVD.
