Future of AI in Schools

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future consideration for schools. It is already shaping how students learn, how teachers design instruction, and how systems define academic success and prepare learners to thrive in the AI age. The challenge is not whether to respond. It is how. In the absence of clear models, many systems are defaulting to extremes—restricting AI use entirely or adopting tools without a clear instructional strategy. The real work lies in something harder: making deliberate choices about how AI fits into teaching, learning, and the purpose of schooling itself. During this free webinar we heard recommendations from the authors of two recently published landmark reports: Rebecca Winthrop of the Brookings Institution on A new direction for students in an AI world: Prosper, prepare, protect, and Amanda Bickerstaff of AI for Education, and Sari Factor of Imagine Learning, on Beyond the AI Inflection Point. They examined the decisions in front of education leaders and school communities right now— to move the field beyond reaction toward intentional design. Participants gained a clearer understanding of: -How current AI decisions are already shaping classroom practice -How policy, instruction, and technology must align to avoid fragmentation -What it takes to move from short-term response to long-term strategy
