Lecture 22 (2014). Fundamentals of convection heat transfer (2 of 3). Boundary layers
This lecture continues on the fundamentals of convection. The following was discussed: velocity boundary layer, wall shear stress, thermal boundary layer, heat transfer coefficient, Prandtl number, laminar and turbulent flow, Reynolds number, heat and mass transfer in turbulent flow, solutions of convective equations for a flat plate, continuity-, momentum-, energy equation, and Blasius. The lecture was presented as part of a heat transfer class to the fourth year students of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering by Prof Josua Meyer, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Lecture was presented on 20 March 2014.
