Larry, The Downing Street Cat - Meet His Guardian Angel!

Another week has passed by, and I’m pleased to report that I remain very much among the living, no small achievement given the recent enthusiasm of the British weather, which has been behaving like an overexcited spaniel: all sunshine one minute, existential gloom the next. Sunday, of course, was the London Marathon, that annual spectacle in which vast numbers of humans voluntarily run 26.2 miles while an even larger number gather to watch them do it, often while eating ice cream. The city was heaving. Positively brimming. A lesser cat might have ventured out to bask in the attention, but I took the wiser course and remained indoors. One mustn’t encourage crowds; before you know it, they expect selfies. Despite the general chaos, a friend of mine, clearly a person of uncommon resourcefulness, managed to secure an exclusive interview with… well, another friend of mine. (My circle is small but curiously efficient.) Some of you may recall that a couple of years ago I introduced my “Guardian Angel,” a splendid fellow by the name of LighHackers. He is the chap who, after a long day wielding a camera, still finds the energy to knock politely on the door so I may regain entry to my residence. It is, I think we can agree, a basic requirement of any functioning household, though my so-called staff continue to treat it as an optional extra. LighHackers not only performs this vital service but also takes rather marvellous photographs of me. I don’t charge him for the privilege; generosity is one of my more underappreciated qualities, and in return, he has produced images that have garnered thousands of views and propelled my friend to the fringes of international fame. Practically a household name, if your household is very small and highly selective. Anyway, in a delightful twist of marathon-related coincidence, my aforementioned friend spotted Lighhacker in London and seized the moment for a quick interview about yours truly.
