Get the basics right! Master light wind windsurfing. When comes down to knowing the basics and practicing when you should. Do you ? Be honest. Windsurfing is one of the most exciting sports in the world, but it's rather technical and I'm not only talking about the equipment. Simple things like a jibe are really complicated when you zoom in and analyze the move. Zooming out it's just a 180 degree turn, but if you look at all the different stages and the little details you have to get right to make it work it actually is pretty difficult. There are a few things that you can do to speed up the learning process like: Watching YouTube video's from experts that explain how to step by step. Learn the move by hart step by step. Do "dry practice" with or without a sail. Practice the move in light winds with small sails and big boards. Join clinics to get personal input on how to improve. In June 2026 I did a clinic for Surfclub Gooimeer in Huizen (The Netherlands). The wind forecast was light, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because then you can zoom into the basics. Also surfclub Gooimeer was keen to let the clinic go ahead so we had a GO. Initially there was no wind at all which meant time to get into the details of rigging and tuning to enhance overall equipment knowledge. After about 2 hours the wind picked up which allowed for some basic practice of the jibe, tack, beach/water start on the water. You should actually practice in light winds in order to be able to nail a move once it's windy. It's great to see the group making steady progress during the clinic.
