VSEPR theory and shapes of molecules

VSEPR Theory yani Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory Chemistry ka ek bohot hi mahatvapurna topic hai. Is theory ka mukhya kaam kisi bhi molecule ki three-dimensional structure aur uske shape ko determine karna hota hai. Jab hum chemical bonding padhte hain, toh sirf chemical formula dekh kar ye pata nahi lagaya ja sakta ki koi molecule dikhne me kaisa hoga. Usi aakar aur jyamiti ko samajhne ke liye VSEPR theory ka upayog kiya jata hai. ​Is theory ka sabse bada niyam ye hai ki kisi bhi central atom ke charo taraf jo electrons hote hain, chahe woh bond pairs hon ya lone pairs, unpar negative charge hota hai. Same charge hone ke karan ye electrons ek doosre ko repel karte hain, yani door dhakelte hain. Is repulsion ko kam karne ke liye aur molecule ko stable banane ke liye, ye electron pairs space me ek doosre se jitna ho sake utni adhikh doori par dhal jaate hain. Lone pair ka repulsion, bond pair ke mukable zyada hota hai, jiske karan molecule ka regular shape bigad jata hai.
