Lesson 2: Indoor Unit — General Construction and Main Components

In this lesson, we examine the general construction of the indoor unit of a split air-conditioning system and identify its main components: housing, filters, evaporator, tangential fan, air louvers, condensate drain pan, temperature sensors, electronic control board, and connecting lines. We also explain the important rule that air-conditioning components are normally named from the perspective of cooling operation. For this reason, the indoor heat exchanger is called the evaporator, even though it operates as a condenser in heating mode. The aim of this lesson is to help students recognize the main components and understand their location before examining their construction and operation in greater detail.
