Have you ever stopped to think about all the steps to do an electrical installation from scratch? Should I start by thinking about the project or should I start running the cables right away? Do I assemble the panel first and then plug in the outlets later? Well, in today's video we're going to show you the step-by-step process of how to do an electrical installation from scratch, safely, quickly and professionally, thus avoiding future problems. The 1st STEP to doing an electrical installation is planning the work. It's very important to define with your client which appliances and other equipment will be used in the residence. In addition, it's necessary to define the number of outlets and lighting points. And why do we need to do this? Simply because only then can we define the number of circuits and the power needed to supply them. Furthermore, we can also design and anticipate circuit protections, cabling and general protections, and thus define the size of the distribution panel (QDC). It's also at this point that we can predict what the building's electrical service entrance standard will be. With the number of power outlets and lighting points defined, as well as the location and size of the distribution board, we can move on to STEP 2, which is the installation of junction boxes and conduits, as you prefer. Conduits are the ducts that protect the electrical cables, and they are installed in walls, slabs, and floors. They must have a specific resistance level for each installation, according to item 6.2.11.1.3 of NBR 5410, which states that "Only conduits that can withstand the deformation stresses characteristic of the construction technique used are permitted in recessed installations." Generally, we use yellow conduit in walls, orange conduit in slabs, and the so-called HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) conduit for floors directly buried in the ground. Yellow conduit is the most fragile, and HDPE is the most resistant. Another important detail is choosing junction boxes that are resistant and suitable for each type of installation. Speaking of suitable, a very important item to ensure the safety of the building's users is electrical grounding. The electrical grounding system serves to protect people and residents against the risk of electric shock. It is responsible for directing electrical currents that may arise in case of internal equipment failures or short circuits in the electrical network to the ground. TN-S type grounding is one of the most common and recommended for use in residences. And so we conclude the infrastructure part of our installation. With the infrastructure ready, we arrive at STEP 3, which is the routing of electrical cables. Since we have already planned which cables and protections we will use, now it's time to run these cables. A tip I give is: always start running the cables from the distribution board (QDC). From the distribution board (QDC), the cables will reach the junction boxes in the ceiling and from there they will be branched off to the small boxes in the wall. Remember, always respect the maximum load capacity of each circuit, thus avoiding overloads. With the cables in place, the 4th STEP is to close the circuits, installing the outlets, switches, and light fixtures. It is at this point that the helpers begin to close all the circuits and the electricians will assemble the distribution board with all the circuits and protections. Personally, I consider this one of the best stages of the work, because assembling a beautiful and functional panel is like my signature on that work, which I consider art. And finally, the 5th STEP is to perform tests to ensure that everything is working correctly. In the panel, we test the circuit breakers, the residual current device (RCD), and also check for continuity in the surge protection device (SPD). In the outlets and light fixtures, in addition to testing their functionality, we also test the polarities to ensure they are correct, check for voltage drop, and so on! And after this lesson, what can we conclude, my dear? To install an electrical system from scratch, you need planning, some technical knowledge, and close attention to standards and regulations.
