Modifying and Restoring a Mystery Vice

I came across this old pattern makers vice a while ago — not sure how old it is or who made it, but it’s built like a tank and pretty cool. It worked okay as it was, but I thought it deserved some attention. One thing I wanted to figure out was adding dogs as for some reason, wasn't a feature even though every other pattern makers vice I've seen has them.
