Congo: Life Cut Off From the World | Deadliest Roads
In Congo, roads are for the most part impassable or non-existent. The only reliable form of transport, the airplane, is beyond the means of the Congolese. In the south the ‘milk’ train crosses half the country, from the capital, Katanga, Lubumbashi to Ilebo. It provides the only link between the most remote villages. It travels 1600 kilometers in three weeks. The train, the cheapest in Congo, stops at every station, like a bus. Along its journey, the milk train provides a means to discover, in deepest Congo, the Africa of tradition. An Africa that is harsh, at times cruel, but also bursting with energy, humanity, courage and solidarity.
