Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects Alternative Approach

In October 2025, the GVS&DD Board endorsed an alternative approach for the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects to mitigate impacts on rate payers while prioritizing regulatory compliance for secondary treatment as soon as possible. The approach rescopes the projects to improve effluent quality sooner, while deferring sub-projects not required for secondary compliance. The rescoped approach reduces costs, over the same period of time, from $9.9 billion to $6 billion.
