Ola was first diagnosed with depression. The medication she was given caused her condition to develop into hypomania. During the highs, she bought unnecessary things and partied heavily. Then came the lows and the consequences of risky behavior. Sometimes she woke up crying, other times euphoric. Her family took turns staying with her. Doctors told her she was an unusual case. The frequency of her mood swings wasn't consistent with either borderline personality disorder or bipolar disorder. Only a long period of observation in a psychiatric ward allowed for a correct diagnosis and the selection of appropriate treatment.
