Driving Through US 231, Northwest Indiana | Rural Roads & Quiet Landscapes 4K

This drive follows US 231 eastbound through Northwest Indiana, beginning in St. John and continuing through Crown Point before heading toward DeMotte. The route starts in St. John, one of Lake County’s fast-growing suburban communities, where newer homes, churches, schools, local businesses, and expanding intersections reflect the continued growth spreading across southern Northwest Indiana. From there, US 231 moves into Crown Point, one of the most recognizable and historic towns in the region. A major highlight of this drive is passing through historic downtown Crown Point, including the well-known Crown Point Square and the classic courthouse-centered town layout that gives the city its old Indiana character. This section adds a completely different feel to the route — from suburban development into a historic downtown core with local storefronts, traffic around the square, civic architecture, and the small-city identity that Crown Point is known for. After Crown Point, the drive continues east along US 231 as the scenery gradually opens up. The commercial and residential density begins to fade, giving way to quieter stretches, open land, farmland, rural homes, long road views, and the slower pace of southern Lake County and Jasper County. By the time the route approaches DeMotte, the drive has shifted from one of Northwest Indiana’s growing suburban zones into a much calmer rural Indiana landscape.
