Massive Silver Maple Removal in Downtown Madison

Today the crew and I tackled one of the biggest and most challenging removals we’ve done in Downtown Madison near Tenny Park — a massive silver maple tree in an extremely tight backyard surrounded by houses, landscaping, and limited access. This tree had been previously cabled and was showing major signs of decline with hollow limbs, dead tops, and heavy dieback throughout the canopy. Getting equipment into the property was a challenge all by itself. We barely managed to squeeze the Merlo crane down the narrow driveway between the two houses, but once we got set up, the real work began. To protect the customer’s driveway, we laid down over 100 pieces of plywood before moving the crane and equipment into the backyard. With the amount of weight involved on this job, protecting the concrete was a huge priority, and we’re proud to say we completed the entire removal with zero damage to the driveway or surrounding landscape. Using the Merlo equipped with the Woodcracker, we safely dismantled the tree piece by piece, including a HUGE 15,000 pound trunk section lift. By the end of the day, we completely filled both grapple trucks with logs and debris. Despite the difficult conditions, tight work zone, and massive wood, the crew got the entire tree removed and cleaned up in ONE day.
