FOXHILL BANK PRINTWORKS OSWALDTWISTLE HISTORY LANCASHIRES INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
This is the site that was the Foxhill bank printworks of Calico and bleach operating from the C18th as a Fulling mill and then Calico in 1780 by Richard Brewer. Benjamin Bury and William Mercer where operating in 1785. Bury left 1790. Robert Peel and William Yates operated in 1797 until 1813 when the site was leased to James Simpson who became very wealth with his diamond pattern he is buried at Church Kirk. In 1837 Thomas Simpson owned the site living at nearby Chestnuts. In 1858 a large bleach works was erected by Nathan Lloyd which had 700 employees. In 1891 the Frederick Steiner & Co took over the site many fires engulfed the site which stopped production in 1931. In 1935 a bleaching company was in operation by Neuss, Hesslin and Kempton. The site was cleared in 1970 for a nature reserve.
