How to Milk a Goat

It's a beautiful day in Maine and we are taking advantage of school break and heading to the beach! But before we do, there are 15 goats in the barn waiting to be milked. It takes about an hour to get through them all and I work fast so that I can get mamas who still have kids at the farm back with their kids for a day in the sun! (The kids sleep on their own from 2-8 weeks so that we can milk the moms once a day and the kids get used to drinking water and eating hay and grain.) Milking is a labor of love. It takes two hours each day, and often it is hard to get up to get it done, but the time in the milkroom is also some of my favorite time each day. I listen to the news, get a few minutes alone with each goat and appreciate the ritual. Hope you enjoy milking as much as I do...now that morning chores are done, we're off to the beach!
