Batman: Discipline | 3D Animated Short Film

Working on this project taught me a lot, and I wanted to share a few lessons I’m taking into my next film. Texture Baking One of the biggest issues I ran into was baking normal maps directly to 2K. A lot of detail was lost after baking, especially on Batman's suit, so I eventually decided to remove his normal maps because they didn't look as good as I wanted. For future projects, I'll bake everything in 4K first, then downscale to 2K using high-quality image resizing software. I think that will preserve much more of the original detail. Production Workflow Looking back, I realized I started with the part I enjoy the most: modeling, texturing, and building the environment. While that's my favorite part of 3D, it made the filmmaking process harder later on. I didn't have a finished storyboard, dialogue, or shot list before production began, which meant I was constantly going back and changing things. Next time, I want to finish the story first, then storyboard every shot before opening Blender. I think it'll make the entire production much smoother. Character Animation Animation is still the area I want to improve the most. Every project teaches me something new, and my next goal is to spend more time studying character performance, body mechanics, and more stylized movement. I also want to become more comfortable animating dynamic characters and pushing my acting further. Cloth Simulation For this film, I decided not to animate Batman's cape since it only appeared briefly, but in future projects, I want to rig and animate clothing using bones instead of avoiding it. It's a skill I've wanted to learn for a while, and I think it'll add a lot more life to future characters. Overall, I'm proud of how this project turned out. Every film is another step forward, and every mistake becomes part of the learning process. I already have ideas for the next one, and I'm excited to keep improving.
