Watch This Before Housemanship | Choosing UBTH Was The Worst Mistake | Review
in 2024 March 1st I started my journey as a house officer in UBTH, to say it was pleasant would be too much for me, I never enjoyed not one day there. And what do you think about this polished version of your review: MY TIME IN UBTH – A REVIEW I arrived at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on February 23rd, eager to start my house job. Little did I know that this experience would be one of the worst decisions I'd ever make. My journey began with a posting in Pediatrics, where I was thrown into the deep end with no prior knowledge or onboarding training. The workload was overwhelming, and I found myself struggling to keep up. However, I persevered and eventually finished my posting with the help of wonderful colleagues. Next, I moved to Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G), where I was made the House Officer Representative (HO REP). While I enjoyed some privileges, the unit was toxic, and the workload was exhausting. My experience in Internal Medicine was equally challenging. The workload was overwhelming, and I found myself feeling drained and demotivated. The lack of gratitude and care from seniors made the experience even more difficult. In my final rotation, I was posted to Trauma Surgery, where I spent most of my time in the hospital. Despite the tedious 48-hour calls, the workload was relatively light, and I enjoyed working with lovely consultants. In retrospect, I regret coming to UBTH. The hospital prioritizes making money over doctors' health, and the working conditions are unbearable. I would never recommend UBTH to anyone. Regarding my seniors, I was disappointed by their disconnect and lack of empathy. They seemed more concerned with their own interests than with supporting their juniors. This attitude perpetuates the profession's stagnation and prevents doctors from receiving their due pay. Food was another major issue. The hospital's food was bland and unappetizing, and the options were limited. Even the call food provided by the hospital was substandard. Extracurricular activities were few and far between, and the social scene in Benin was limited. I often found myself going out alone to avoid the gossip and scrutiny that came with socializing. Finally, the accommodations provided by the hospital were substandard. The rooms were poorly maintained, with horrible plumbing and frequent water shortages. The constant electricity was a rare luxury, but even that was not enough to make up for the overall poor living conditions. In conclusion, my experience at UBTH was overwhelmingly negative. I would not recommend it to anyone, and I would advise against working there. The hospital's priorities are misplaced, and the working conditions are unacceptable. #UBTH #HOUSEOFFICER #DOCTOR #doctorlife #doctorsofyoutube #doctorsoftiktok #doctorsofinstagram
