Why Only a Trinitarian God Can Love in Freedom The doctrine of the Trinity, which names God as One God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is not a mathematical and philosophical puzzle but the deep heart of everything Christians understand about God. At the centre of all reality is the divine being who is loving and self-giving. Here is a relationality that rejoices in genuine distinctions, and yet is also so profoundly united that ‘One’ and ‘Three’ are not contradictory terms.
