The weather couldn't make up its mind — a heatwave, then suddenly the cold rushing back in at the edge of July, the kind of shift that makes you want to stay close to home and do things slowly. So that's what this week was. A vanity table given a new life. Strawberry pierogis made the way my grandmother taught me, folded and pressed with that particular patience the recipe demands. Time in the garden cutting roses and catmint, trimming the hedge back, giving a plant the support it had been asking for. And somewhere between all of it, a quiet corner of the house turned into a workspace — because a new project is beginning: painting, every day, starting now.
