As most fanciers clean their loft every day, simply observing the droppings during the cleaning process is a good way to monitor the health of the pigeons over the past 24 hours. Diarrheal droppings can be homogeneous or black. It is homogeneous when there is dilution of the faecal mass in excess water in the intestine. Inhomogeneous droppings are those where the intestinal transit is rapid and often even too rapid. The 'crunchy' droppings very rich in urates of certain paratyphoids.
