In the second episode of the “Another India” series, Alex leaves Leh to embark on a special journey: crossing the Khardung La pass – one of the highest motorable passes in the world – to reach the remote Nubra valley in the middle of the Himalayas. The road is not easy: the higher you go, the thinner the air, the colder the wind and the more majestic the scenery. Snowy mountains, glaciers, deep valleys and treacherous curves make for an unforgettable journey. On the way to Diskit village, I visit the 600-year-old Diskit monastery and the majestic 32-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha statue. The long day ends with a night at a local homestay, amidst the peaceful atmosphere of the Nubra valley.
