The Goddess HIDDEN Inside Yahweh's Temple — Forbidden Gods of the Bible

Why was there a goddess standing inside the holiest room of Yahweh's Temple — and why did the Bible itself record it? In 622 BCE, King Josiah ordered an Asherah, a wooden symbol of a goddess, carried out of the Temple of the Lord and burned. According to Second Kings, it had stood there for generations. This video follows the three "forbidden gods" the Hebrew Bible fought to erase — the goddess Asherah, the storm god Baal, and the dark fire of Molech in the Valley of Hinnom — and asks how a faith devoted to one God preserved, inside its own pages, the unmistakable memory of the gods it left behind. We examine the sources side by side: the canonical text (2 Kings, Leviticus 18 and 20, Jeremiah 7 and 32, the showdown on Mount Carmel in 1 Kings 18) alongside the archaeology — the Ugaritic tablets of El, Athirat and Baal from Ras Shamra, the Judean pillar figurines, the Tophet of Carthage with its urns and inscriptions to Baal Hammon and Tanit, and the two inscriptions that turned a quiet academic debate into one of the most argued-over phrases in biblical studies: "Yahweh and his Asherah," found at Kuntillet Ajrud and Khirbet el-Qom. Was Asherah a goddess understood by ordinary Israelites as Yahweh's consort, or simply a wooden cult pole whose meaning had faded? Was "Molech" ever a god at all, or a Phoenician word for a kind of sacrifice that later readers mistook for a name?
