Sowing grass by hand in the garden (without special equipment) This video shows how I sow grass by hand using simple tools and techniques. First, I used a wheelbarrow to scoop up the soil on the old grass and then carefully compacted it with my feet to create a solid base. Then I smoothed the surface with a rake to make it smooth and ready for seeds. I spread the grass seeds on the compacted soil and, in order to help them sink in and not be too exposed, I covered them with a thin layer of soil. To ensure an even distribution, I again sprinkled some additional seed, although I doubted whether this was necessary.
