swcwalks, book1, walk11, Tring to Wendover. 18/6/26

An excellent canal-side walk between Tring and Wendover last undertaken in the autumn of 2010. This 9.7 mile variant covers some different terrain to that main walk of 12.74 miles by utilising the two shortcuts that are offered. It was ideal for the sultry conditions today. It's along the Grand Union Canal Walk initially, then into the open skies of the reservoirs that supplied the canal with water; now nature reserves. Shortly after, this variant follows the Wendover Arm of the canal, or the 'leaky canal' to Drayton Beauchamp where lunch is had in St Mary the Virgin church yard. Thereafter, it's under the A41 to continue along the Outer Aylesbury Ring path into Wendover. After a short section of town walking, there a several tea opportunities prior to arriving at the station. A very tranquil walk, and on the level, with good paths today (and likely to be year-round). N.B. It was a Reed Warbler in the reeds, not a Bunting, and the Swan was the common Mute, our resident Swan.
