I Built My Dream Bass

The Bluebird, my dream instrument created thanks to and in honor of my Grandad who we lost in March. Grandad was such a huge fan and supporter of my music from an early age and I think of him every time I play. The bass is a hybrid original 50s style Precision bass with a reproduction MusicMan Stingray pickup near the big modern bridge. Each pickup has a separate volume and tone control to blend and bring out many different tones. The top pickup is warm, woody, and rumbly, the bottom is punchy, aggressive, growly. Together they can blend to a really cool sound. The bass was painted (body and headstock) and assembled by me, my Dad, and my partner did the detailed artwork. The blue jay reminds me of our trips outdoors, and our time indoors watching the Toronto Blue Jays. The F logo is a tribute to a door sign for Fenton on the house Granddad so proudly built. The main color and aesthetic were meant to match old vintage cars that he loved showing and talking about on slide shows. The body and headstock paint and clear coats we got from Oxford Supply for a vintage style finish. The swamp ash body and beautiful roasted maple neck and pickguard were cut, built, and routed by Warmoth Guitar. The pickups were handmade in LA by Curtis Novak. The amazingly solid bridge and tuners (including a drop D tuner) are from Hipshot. Various knobs wires capacitors and other small parts I got from Solo Music Gear always have my niche project parts in stock.
