In this explanatory video, we delve deeper into the mental health crisis that is increasingly affecting emergency services in the Netherlands. What happens when mental health professionals find themselves in an emergency situation, but no care is available? Why are more and more reports of mental health behavior ending up with the police? What are the underlying causes of this growing problem? In Gelderland, more than 13,000 reports were received in 2020, an average of 35 reports per day. By 2024, this number had risen to over 17,000 reports, or 46 reports per day. Nationally, the police receive 150,000 reports of mental health behavior annually, a worrying increase that is putting increasing pressure on the police, mental health services, and municipalities. With the growing burden on the healthcare system, it's time to reveal the truth. What is failing in the system? And why is the problem getting worse?
