4 Injured As Wardens Confiscate 476 Phones From Kamiti Inmates

One prisoner was badly injured after warders and inmates at the Kamiti Maximum Prison in Nairobi clashed early this morning. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Rose Moturi, prison warders fired in the air to prevent the inmates from escaping after some of them started scaling walls. Chaos started when the inmates started rioting to protest an impromptu search mounted by prison warders seeking contraband goods including mobile phones. The search however went on successfully, with 76 phones and over 2,000 SIM cards recovered in the search that also left 2 officers wounded.
