Gnashing Teeth and Creating Utopias: A Deeper Look at the Parable of the Weeds in Matthew 13
When Jesus gives a detailed explanation of the Parable of the Weeds (or Tares), he leaves out a conspicuous section. Who are the workers? What does their desire to eradicate evil teach us? We will also look at how this story is a “parabolizing” of Daniel 12. Reading the parable alongside Daniel is crucial for understanding what Jesus is teaching. Finally, “gnashing of teeth” is an expression almost totally misunderstood. The Hebrew background will clarify that it has nothing to do with pain or anguish. Join Chad Bird as he looks at this parable through Hebrew eyes.
