TIG Welding tips for Newbies

Hi folks, welcome to Man Cave Makings with me Gus. In this video I have complied everything I have to offer to Newbies (new to TIG welding) and some tips for those who might already be welding as a depository for the type of welding I do and the things I have learnt over the last few years. I should point out that I’m not an academic welder who has qualification but someone who has sat at his welding bench burning through rods and plates in a vague aim of getting a weld which looks semi decent! I still have a ways to go to get to that “stacked dime/penny” look in my welding but for me I’m happy with the stuff I produce and what I offer here is based on more my trail and lots or errors than anything else. As with most of my videos my aim is to knowledge share and give as much detail as I can to try and assist with idea generation, how to’s, tools and tips to save you guys possibly falling down the same pitfalls as I have. I have listed everything in the video at the bottom under the section headers so you can review at your leisure. It’s a bit of an epic watch but I wanted to get a “one stop shop” of information out for what I can offer. In the first section of the video I discuss the typical things which go wrong with TIG welding and what to look out for. When I started it was often difficult to understand what element was going wrong and unfortunately it can be a mix of a few things all at once but essentially there are usually only 3 basics you need to get a good start and the 4th is all to do with amps. The second section is about TIG torches, I’m not covering what different types there are on the market but more just a review of the ones I use and why. I also discuss TIG wire and the type and sizes I use. The third section is all about Preparation ……….prep, prep, prep it’s a bit of a religion of mine and if you watch no other section this is the one I have learnt by bitter experience to take note of the most! The fourth and last section discussed welding masks, vision, drill vice and welding position and as I’m not an welding super god I’m not talking about the academics of AWS:3F uphill positions, rather the more simplest of form which is getting you in a position to weld! I hope you can take some useful information from the video and want to thank you for the support and as always I actively encourage dialogue and comments so please like, share and comment. I do recognise I am not being particular with respect to technical back up so as with all my videos I want to give credit to those who have helped me along the way and there are two sites which you will have already probably visited but if not the following two places are my reference which I still use extensively.
