Ankara Takımları NEDEN Düşüşte?

London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Stockholm… Many major cities in the world come to mind. These cities are known for their large economies, their place in popular culture, or their sporting achievements. But what about Ankara? When we hear Ankara's name, the first thing that comes to mind for most of us is that it's the capital of Türkiye. However, Ankara's popularity worldwide is quite limited compared to cities like Istanbul, Antalya, and Izmir. Türkiye's popularity is largely shaped by its culinary culture, tourism, Istanbul's size, or its confusion with Arab culture due to the country's Muslim majority. However, Ankara stands out neither for its food nor for its tourism. In fact, many foreigners mistake Istanbul for Türkiye's capital. And it's quite difficult for a European football fan to even know Ankara. Many have never even heard of an Ankara team. So, why is Ankara so unknown globally and so overlooked in football? The city's history lies at the root of Ankara's current status. Although Ankara is one of Türkiye's oldest cities, it doesn't possess the same historical and commercial heritage as Istanbul. Istanbul was the apple of the eye not only of the Ottoman Empire but also of the entire world, while Izmir was a center of exports during the Ottoman era. Although Ankara's history dates back 10,000 years, it lacked the large population flow and trade potential of Istanbul or Izmir. While it was a significant commercial city during the Ottoman era, its importance gradually diminished in the face of Istanbul's size and development. Ankara became the capital with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's proclamation of the republic and began to grow rapidly. However, it has never achieved the economic strength of Istanbul, nor has it achieved a greater developmental level. This historical weakness has also left its mark on the city's football. The capital has failed to achieve a consistent rise in football. While teams like Ankaragücü and Gençlerbirliği once topped the Süper Lig and were formidable rivals to the Big Three, they have experienced a significant decline in recent years. Similarly, other Ankara clubs like Demirspor, Şekerspor, Hacettepe, and Oftaş have consistently failed to advance. In this video, we delve into why these clubs haven't risen to the top and the reasons for their decline in the football arena, as you click the like button.
