A Week in Iceland | All Part of the Experience

In April 2026, my wife, our kids, and I spent eight days traveling through Iceland during the tail end of winter. We based ourselves in Reykjavik and Selfoss, using them as home bases to explore the Golden Circle and the South Coast, including Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, Gullfoss Waterfall, and iconic stops like Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach near Vík. This trip was filled with unforgettable moments, but also unexpected challenges, including a full car breakdown that left us stranded for hours in freezing conditions. Between snowstorms, whiteout driving, limited daylight, and shifting weather, Iceland proved to be both beautiful and unpredictable. We stayed at The Reykjavik EDITION and later spent time in Selfoss, a small town that served as a convenient base for exploring South Iceland. Along the way, we visited local pastry shops, experienced Icelandic cuisine, and explored Reykjavik’s landmarks including Hallgrímskirkja, Sun Voyager, and the Reykjavik Art Museum. This is not just a travel guide, but a real travel experience through Iceland in winter, with all its unpredictability, beauty, and stillness.
