Goa’s Senior Citizens Need Protection—CM Must Launch Welfare Home Inspections.🙏

Countries such as Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Singapore, and the United Kingdom have government-supported programs that conduct home visits and welfare checks for senior citizens, especially those who live alone or are vulnerable. These visits help authorities assess their health, living conditions, and whether they are receiving proper care and protection from neglect or abuse. Goa should consider implementing a similar system. Every senior citizen deserves to live with dignity, safety, and respect. Regular welfare visits by trained government officials or social workers could help identify cases of neglect, abuse, abandonment, or lack of medical care at an early stage. As the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant has the opportunity to introduce a dedicated Senior Citizen Welfare Inspection Programme to protect elderly residents across the state. Where investigations find evidence of neglect, abuse, or violations of the law, the appropriate authorities should take strict legal action in accordance with applicable laws. This is an appeal to the Government of Goa to strengthen the protection of senior citizens and ensure that no elderly person is left to suffer in silence.
