Despite only 42% of S&P 500 stocks closing in the green, semiconductor stocks completely carried the market upwards. Chip stocks just wrapped up their best first half against the S&P 500 in history, led by massive moves from Micron and SanDisk. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions remain high as U.S. and Iranian negotiators utilize intermediaries for ceasefire talks in Qatar. Iran is pushing hard to establish transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, a move that President Trump recently labeled as completely unacceptable. Back home, Trump issued a direct warning to gas retailers to lower their prices immediately or face big problems ahead. On the macro front, the Japanese Yen just collapsed to its weakest level against the U.S. dollar since 1986, threatening a massive carry trade unwind. We are also tracking historic margin debt levels alongside the massive upcoming state funeral for Ayatollah Khamenei this Friday.
