A More EXTREME Water Trail: Adventure in CRIVADIA GORGE – Grădiștea Muncelului-Cioclovina Natural Park – Hunedoara, Șureanu Mountains It’s important to be properly equipped for walking through water, because right from the entrance to the trail towards Crivadia Gorge, you’ll be walking in the riverbed. The gorge begins approximately under the viaduct, where the river flows between two rocky walls. Gradually, the gorge narrows. Most of the time I walked through the water, occasionally stepping out onto sandy strips or larger stones. At one point, I reached a calm pool where the gorge walls are vertical and very close to each other. There, and in two other spots, the water reached chest level, so I had to carry my backpack above my head. Open areas alternate with very narrow ones along almost the entire length of Crivadia Gorge. The water is not as clear as in Râmeț Gorge, but I cannot say the access was difficult. The river has no speed or strong current in deeper sections, so I would say the trail is suitable for anyone willing to get wet. You cannot cross Crivadia Gorge without getting wet. In some parts, the water reached up to my chest. The gorge walls are nearly vertical, rising tens of meters high. In the narrowest places, you can’t even stretch your arms fully — the distance between the walls can be as little as 1 meter. This is one reason why some parts of the trail are quite dark. It’s possible that even on the sunniest days, sunlight never reaches those sections of the gorge. The water temperature was quite low, especially since I was walking in the shade most of the time. There are also more open zones, and as you approach the exit of the gorge, it becomes possible to walk on stones along the river. I realized I had reached the exit of Crivadia Gorge when I arrived in a small meadow and saw a fenced field.
