Twisting PostgreSQL into a Document Db and Event Store | Citus Con: An Event for Postgres 2023
Video of a conference talk about the Marten project, a document database that leverages the PostgreSQL JSON data type. In this talk delivered at Citus Con: An Event for Postgres 2023 by Jeremy Miller, you’ll learn how PostgreSQL has some unusually powerful functionality for storing, retrieving, and querying on JSON data. The Marten (https://martendb.io) project has successfully utilized the PostgreSQL JSONB type to build out a fully-fledged document database and event store feature set. You'll see what the Marten team has done, the bits of PostgreSQL that's made it possible, and explore how Marten works with PostgreSQL to allow users to scale to much larger data sets. Jeremy Miller is the Senior Director of Software Architecture at MedeAnalytics. Jeremy began his software career writing "Shadow IT" applications to automate his tedious engineering documentation, then wandered into software development because it looked like more fun. Jeremy is heavily involved in open source .NET development as the lead developer of Marten, Lamar, Alba, and other projects in the JasperFx family. ► Video bookmarks: ⏩ 00:00 Introduction ⏩ 03:43 Why PostgreSQL for Marten? ⏩ 05:20 Marten as a Document Database ⏩ 14:11 Event sourcing ⏩ 26:22 Fast web services ⏩ 33:53 Future plans ✅ Learn more: Watch more Citus Con 2023 talks: https://aka.ms/cituscon-playlist 📕 Everything you need to know about Citus Con: An Event for Postgres can be found at: https://aka.ms/cituscon 📌 Let’s connect: Twitter – @CitusCon, / cituscon #CitusCon #PostgreSQL #Database
