The protagonist, Katsushika Oi, is played by Masami Nagasawa, a leading figure in Japanese cinema since her breakthrough in "Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World" (2004). This marks Nagasawa's first lead role in a period drama, reuniting with director Omori since "Mother" (2020). She also stars alongside Nagase Masatoshi as Oei's father, Katsushika Hokusai, and King & Prince's Takahashi Kaito as Oei's close friend Zenjiro (Keisai Eisen). A talented cast, including Otani Ryohei, Shinoi Eisuke, Okuno Eita, and Terajima Shinobu, also assembles to portray the characters surrounding Katsushika Hokusai, adding color to the story of this little-known genius artist.
