Hartman is one of the central characters in Death Stranding, a scientist from Bridges who investigates the Shores and the Exit of Death. Lives and works in a laboratory south of the Mountain Knot. Member of Bridges, researcher of Death's Exit. Its life cycle consists of a constant repetition of 21 minutes of wakefulness and 3 minutes of the state of clinical death. During the latter, he is looking for his dead family on the Shore. During one of the outbursts, Hartman was in the hospital due to heart complications. After the explosion, the electricity that sustained the patient's life was cut off. So he spent 21 minutes in a state of clinical death. There he saw many people walking across the Coast to the “other side”. Among them were his wife and daughter. However, Hartman himself survived. Rather, it survived only nominally. As he himself admitted, his soul (or Ka) remained on the Shore, and even though his body was in the world of the living, he himself remained forever dead. Therefore, his goal is to find a family on the Shore and finally go to the afterlife with her. Because of this rhythm of life, Hartman's heart was deformed, which now resembles a caricatured heart. Ironically, at the same time, the character has a great passion for likes, which are also represented in the game in the form of hearts.
