Following a wave of attacks on schools, the Federal Government launched the Safe Schools Initiative in May 2014 to strengthen safety and security measures in educational institutions, particularly in conflict-prone areas of northern Nigeria. Nearly a decade later, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earmarked ₦144.8 billion over a four-year period to support the programme.
