La Fuente del Chorro, el grifo de Batres

Check out the rest of the Route 179 program in Batres and many other destinations in Madrid at: http://www.telemadrid.es/ruta179 Raúl heads to Batres along the road from Navalcarnero to Chinchón and is immediately struck by the beauty of the entrance to this town in southwest Madrid. At the Fuente del Chorro, Damián is waiting for him, filling a jug with this water, as he has done since he was a child. The water comes from a nearby spring, and many locals like him come here to get their supplies. In front of the fountain is the El Cotillo stream, where families used to come to wash clothes. Written on the stone surrounding the fountain are poems related to water and to one of Batres's illustrious residents, the author of these poems, Garcilaso de la Vega. Then Damián takes us to what was once an old winery that eventually became tobacco drying sheds, very important in telling the recent history of Batres. They are now abandoned and can be visited. He also takes us to the Monte de Batres Farm, another labor center in the town, owned by the Covisa family, where he worked for 14 years as a farmer in a farmhouse. The farm also had tobacco drying rooms. We'll go inside so Damián can tell us about the entire process of receiving and drying tobacco.
