Harnessing Collective Intelligence of Teams | Paddy Upton | TEDxCapeTown
Leaders, coaches, teachers, and even parents are being asked in the current knowledge age to upgrade their approach, from telling people what to do - to harness the intelligence of the people they are leading. In so doing, to enable them to make smart decisions in those moments that really count. Paddy shares how he used this approach to help a national cricket team to become World Cup winners and lead bottom-of-the-league teams to champions in a very short space of time. Paddy Upton is a professor at the Business and Law Faculty of Deakin University based in Melbourne, Australia, and has obtained various degrees from four different universities including two Master’s degrees. During his 25 years of experience working in high-performing teams in business and sport, Paddy served as the Indian national cricket team's Mental Conditioning and Strategic Leadership coach, assisting them in winning the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time in 28 years and becoming the World's No. 1 Test Team for the first time. He then helped guide the South African cricket team to become the first to hold the World No. 1 rating in all three formats of the game, as their Performance Director. Paddy, author of ‘The Barefoot Coach’, shares better ways of harnessing collective intelligence of a team/ group which he’s learned and applied to see his teams to victory. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
