🎙️ In this new episode of Between Being and Doing, we talk with Susy Cantarelli, a graduate in Psychopedagogy from the National University of Lomas de Zamora, specializing in neurodevelopment, neuropsychology, early interpersonal trauma, and adoption. With a solid clinical, academic, and teaching background, Susy has dedicated much of her career to the psychopedagogical assessment and intervention of children, adolescents, and adults with specific and non-specific learning difficulties. She teaches Psychopedagogical Clinical Practice in Childhood and Psychopedagogical Clinical Practice with Adolescents and Adults, directs the interdisciplinary team Cauces, and is currently developing Functional Learning, a project that seeks to complement the undergraduate training of future psychopedagogues and bring the university closer to everyday clinical practice. In this interview, we delve into one of the most profound and controversial debates currently facing psychopedagogy: what does it truly mean to work from an evidence-based practice? In recent years, an idea has taken hold that has generated conflicting opinions within the profession: that discussing scientific evidence, research, or certain evidence-based interventions implies adopting an ideological position. How did we get to this point? Does evidence have a partisan political slant? What role does science play today in building a responsible professional practice? Throughout the conversation, we reflected on the role of scientific research in clinical practice, the limitations of evidence-based practices, the importance of clinical reasoning, the value of professional experience, and the need to integrate scientific knowledge with the history, context, and uniqueness of each individual. Because working from evidence doesn't mean automatically applying protocols, but rather making better decisions for those we support. We also discussed the ethical responsibility of staying up-to-date, critical thinking, the training of new generations of educational psychologists, and the challenges facing a profession that needs to continue growing without losing sight of what makes it unique: the human connection. Beyond the debate, this interview is an invitation to ask ourselves uncomfortable questions. Let's examine our own practices, question our certainties, and remember that the true focus of our work should never be a theoretical current or an ideological position, but rather the people who trust us to accompany their learning and development processes.
