Kingdom Hearts & the Robert Johnson Myth: Devils, Hellhounds, and Crossroads
With Tetsuya Nomura's comments earlier this year about how the Robert Johnson myth inspired the reoccurring motif of crossroads in Kingdom Hearts, I wanted to do a deeper dive on the way elements of the myth have been used in the series thus far and speculate a bit regarding the future. None of this is meant to be a declaration of authorial intent, but, rather, a close reading of the games with the myth in mind. I originally planned to do this as a TikTok video, but my ideas started snowballing and running long, so I figured I'd experiment with doing it in a longer video essay type format. This isn't how I usually do videos, so let me know if you like this or if you want to see more like this!
