2009 Hyundai Accent 1.6L GLS DOHC Timing belt service Part 3 of 3 720pHD
Items covered in this video are: 1. Replacement of the idler pulley 2. Replacement of the timing belt tensioner 3. Replacement of the tensioner spring and bracket 4. Detailed description of replacement of the water pump 5. TDC check with the harmonic balancer off 6. Installation of the new timing belt 7. Timing belt start test 8. Timing belt tension check 9. Installation of the Harmonic Balancer and how to torque down the bolt on an automatic transmission engine. 10 Tips to install the A/C and Power steering pulleys to the water pump 11. Update on Hyundai's online service tech website (Bad news for the DIY guys) It is suggested you check out my AC/Alternator/Power steering videos to learn how to reinstall all 3 belts after you have completed the timing belt installation. This video is broken up into 3 parts because the job takes over 3 hours to do. This is a high detailed step by step video which covers all the parts of the timing belt system including part numbers and costs for each of the replacement parts shown in these videos. The car being serviced is a 2009 Hyundai Accent 4 Door gls 1.6L DOHC It is suggested you replace your timing belt and tensioner and idler every 90-100,00 klm or 60,000 miles. Anything over this you risk the timing belt breaking. If the timing belt breaks the engine will go out of time and the valves will hit the pistons destroying your engine. Engines cost $5000,00 to replace so if your not handy with working on your car I suggest you pay Hyundai Dealership to do this job. If your up to the task then here is the how-to. Due to holidays I uploaded part 2 today. Enjoy! Disclaimer: Top dead center must be set correctly when removing and installing the timing belt. All bolts must be torqued to Hyundai spec. Failure to do this will result in engine damage. If you use my video on how to service your timing belt and something goes wrong I will not be held responsible for any damages that may occur on your vehicle. If for any reason you have any doubt that you have the skills to perform this task take your car to a certified Hyundai dealership to have this job done and they will be glad to take a big bite out of your wallet. I think that covers it. LOL Additional information regarding installation of the water pump pulleys. I recently worked on a second timing belt job on a 3 door 2010 Hyundai accent and found it easier to install the pulleys with the wire method but installed all the belts. Then you will have enough pressure holding the pulley to do up the water pump pulley bolts! --Time saver tip. Good luck with your timing belt job...
