Tom I. – Back to Basics: Changing Times | Huntsville Roundup, TX (2011)
Tom I. of Southern Pines, North Carolina carried one of the most powerful redemption stories in Alcoholics Anonymous. After entering AA while serving time in prison, Tom got sober on February 2, 1957. What followed was a life devoted to service and helping others recover. In one of the most remarkable transformations in recovery history, the man who once entered the prison system as an inmate would later return and spend 39 years working in corrections, eventually becoming a prison warden and helping thousands of incarcerated men discover a new way to live through the Twelve Steps. In this talk titled “Back to Basics: Changing Times,” recorded at the Huntsville Roundup in Texas on February 3, 2011, Tom shares his experience, strength, and hope with clarity, humility, and deep gratitude for the life Alcoholics Anonymous gave him. Tom’s message reminds us that while the world changes, the spiritual principles of the Twelve Steps remain timeless. With the permission of Tom’s family and close friends, Recovery Speakers is honored to preserve and share Tom’s recordings so his message can continue helping people for generations to come. This talk is part of our weekly series: Tom I. Thursdays Every Thursday we release a talk from Tom I. to help preserve his legacy and carry his message forward.
