Manifestation contre la vie chère en Martinique : le RPPRAC défile Paris ce 27 juillet 2025
This rally brought together several hundred people at Place de la Nation, with a scheduled departure at 12:30 p.m., to denounce the considerable price gaps between the overseas territories and those in mainland France. The action was organized by the RPPRAC collective (Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean Peoples and Resources), led by Rodrigue Petitot, an emblematic figure of the Antillean movement. Rodrigue Petitot, present in the procession, reaffirmed the ongoing struggle: "The struggle has never stopped. ... We fight in the shadows as well as in the light." He denounced the lack of receptiveness of the French authorities to overseas demands, which they deemed ignored, including during meetings at the Élysée Palace or at official roundtables. The mobilization aimed to put pressure on the French government, two days before the presentation of a bill by Overseas Minister Manuel Valls, intended to regulate prices in the overseas territories. This bill is considered insufficient by some elected officials, such as LFI MP Jean-Philippe Nilor, who sees it as a "timid and piecemeal response" to the real economic difficulties experienced overseas. The price gaps denounced are particularly staggering: INSEE estimates a difference of up to 40%, or even 42%, in Guadeloupe for certain food products compared to mainland France. More than half of those surveyed said they were forgoing essential daily expenses. Political support was demonstrated with the participation of Jean-Hughes Ratenon, LFI MP for Réunion, and Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group, who reaffirmed their political commitment alongside the demonstrators. Ratenon condemned a policy he deemed insufficiently ambitious, as the government plans to cut the overseas budget by several hundred million euros in 2026. The march was also supported by several political and community organizations involved in the RPPRAC movement. This rally is part of a social movement that began in September 2024 in Martinique, led in particular by the RPPRAC, to denounce the cost of living in the French overseas departments. It takes place in a context where the Antilles, French Guiana, and Mayotte are experiencing price disparities and a poverty rate much higher than in mainland France. In the background, the mobilization has a political and symbolic dimension: it is continuing on the eve of municipal elections and marks a new momentum, while consultation with the government is deemed ineffective. Rodrigue Petitot and Gwladys Roger began a tour of major French cities (Paris, Bordeaux, Rennes, Toulouse, etc.) to raise awareness of the overseas cause and prepare for the next phase of the movement. This Sunday, July 27, the demonstration was hailed as "historic" in its ability to bring together the Caribbean and overseas diaspora and produce a red book containing concrete proposals from the Popular Conference Against the High Cost of Living recently held in Martinique. In short, it was a powerful moment of civic and political mobilization aimed at highlighting the persistent economic inequalities between the overseas territories and mainland France, demanding strong structural responses from the government, and affirming the active solidarity of the French diaspora in Paris. #ExpensiveLife #Overseas #Martinique #Inflation #prices #RPPRAC @RPPRAC Subscribe to follow all the latest news filmed on the ground without commentary: https://youtube.com/clpress?sub_confi... #News #Information #CLPRESS 📲 More news footage from the ground: ▶️ Twitter: / clpressfr ▶️ Facebook: / clementlanot ▶️ YouTube: / clpress ▶️ TikTok: / clpress ▶️ Instagram: / clpress ▶️ Website: https://clpress.fr/ ▶️ Email: [email protected] Follow Clément Lanot ▶️ Twitter: / clementlanot ▶️ Clément Lanot's YouTube channel: / clementlanot ▶️ TikTok: / clementlanot ▶️ Instagram: / clementlanot ALL COMMERCIAL OR NON-COMMERCIAL USES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED WITHOUT PERMISSION.
